The incident took place around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday after a Calhoun Avenue resident reported seeing a suspicious vehicle driving slowly through the neighborhood and a passenger of the vehicle was attempting to break into cars parked in neighboring driveways, said Trumbull Police Capt. Keith Golding.

Trumbull Police arrived shortly after to find the vehicle, a 2016 Honda Civic with CT registration plate AL90797, on Calhoun Avenue near Hyde Terrace. The first officer on scene saw a male in dark clothing get into the passenger side of the vehicle just before it sped away towards Main Street, Golding said.

The vehicle drove over the front lawn of a Hyde Terrace residence and around the approaching patrol car before heading southerly down Main Street where it fled at a high rate of speed, he added.

Responding officers attempted to catch up to the vehicle but were unable to do so as it turned easterly onto Church Hill Road. The vehicle, which was reported stolen in East Lyme on Dec. 26, 2018, was last seen traveling south toward the Bridgeport line, Golding said.

Several residents later reported that their vehicles had been entered and their property was stolen.

The Trumbull Police continue to remind all residents to always lock their vehicles and never leave keys or valuables inside.
